Prof. Harlan Grinde will discuss this topic at 7 p.m., Monday, March 12, at Spencer High School, 300 School St. This presentation is part of the History Speaks in Your Town series presented by the Marathon County Historical Society and the Continuing Education office of UW-Marathon County.

China’s emergence as the world’s second largest economy and second most powerful military raises challenges for the United States. This presentation will explore China’s rise to power and the current political, economic and diplomatic basis for the “China Dream” program announces by President Xi Jinping. The concluding segment will offer observations concerning China’s problems and weaknesses.

Harlan Grinde is an Emeritus Professor of History from the University of Wisconsin Marathon County, where he taught a Twentieth Century Asia course, among others.
