New way to find downtown housing

Looking to live in or near downtown Wausau’s River District? There’s a new way to find residential listings in and near downtown Wausau.

Wausau River District has added a new page to their website that lists apartments and homes for sale and lease within easy walking and biking distance of the River District (http://www.wausauriverdistrict.org/live-here-1/). The idea came from a strategic plan and subsequent activities assessment the organization undertook earlier this year. Residential Development was seen to be a big opportunity and need in downtown Wausau and the surrounding areas, so one of the first steps the organization took to help build a residential base is adding a residential listing section to the website.

“As someone who has always lived and worked in downtowns, this is a feature I would have used had it existed,” says Elizabeth Brodek, executive director of Wausau River District. “Until now, and in every other community I’ve lived in, I’ve been left to my own devices to understand what living options were in and near the city center. We hear that same problem from people here or moving here looking to live downtown. Downtown properties can be hard to find with everything that’s out there. This page makes that search a lot easier.”

In addition to listing residential units, the site also lists a variety of amenities in walking and biking distance of the River District. A focus on walk- and bike-ability was key as more people seek opportunities to leave their cars at home. Wausau River District has a walk score of 93, making it a “Walker’s Paradise,” according to the website walkscore.com, which means that daily errands can generally be made without need for a car.

The site will be updated every two weeks and pulls information from a variety of sources to keep information accurate. The Wausau River District website also already lists commercial properties for sale and lease within the River District.
