Jubilee House is a Catholic Worker House, following the movement started by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in 1933. It is a place where Jesus Christ is welcomed in the disguise of the hungry, the homeless, the lonely, and the stranger. All are welcome, no matter what their station in life. Our mission is to provide a free meal and hospitality for anyone in need. While keeping our Catholic identity, other faith traditions participate in our ministry.
In January, Jubilee House began offering its free community meal at our new location at the Church of the Resurrection located at 621 2nd Street, Wausau. Meals are served every Thursday except Holy Thursday and Thanksgiving. Our doors are opened to guests at 4:00pm and the meal is served from 4:30 to 6:00 pm.
Jubilee House was incorporated in January of 2000 as a 501© non-stock corporation registered with the WI Dept. of Financial institutions and has continued to offer the free community meal ever since. Jubilee House would like to thank St. Mathew Parish and Faith Christian Academy of Wausau for being our home for the past 11 years.
Special thank you to the church groups, area businesses, youth sport teams and coaches, and individual families that supply the food for our meals. We would not be able to continue our mission of offering food and hospitality to those in need without these generous people. Thank you also to our dedicated volunteers that assist the groups each Thursday.
We are always in need of groups to fill the open dates on our calendar. Please contact Judy Tapper at 715-848-6120 to schedule a meal or to join our volunteers.
