Wausau Emergency Police Seeking Volunteers
The Wausau Emergency Police, a volunteer organization that works with the Wausau Police Department is seeking volunteers to help work events. The organization has been in existence since 1951. The unit consists of citizen volunteers who are willing to give of their time and talents in promoting a safe and secure community. All parades, various 5K and 10K races, the Balloon Rally, and Wisconsin Valley Fair are just a few of the events worked by the Emergency Police. The unit provides traffic/crowd control and assists the police department on an as needed basis with scene security and other special assignments.
Those wishing to join the Emergency Police must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check and interview to become a member. A member must commit to working at least five events per year. The unit provides uniform shirt, hat and equipment. Training is provided.
