The Four Chaplains

Posted

Submitted by: Don Hildebrandt

On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the Mayor of Wausau Katie Rosenberg declared the first Sunday in February as Four Chaplains Sunday in the City of Wausau. The Wausau American Legion Post 10 is forever grateful and thankful for this declaration honoring the military chaplains and Veteran service organizations in the City of Wausau.

The Four Chaplains, also referred to as the Immortal Chaplains or the Dorchester Chaplains, were four chaplains who died rescuing civilian and military personnel as the American troop ship SS

Dorchester sank on February 3, 1943, in what has been referred to as the second-worst sea disaster of World War ll. More information about the Four Chaplains can be found online.
