Creative Computing for Everyone (MCPL Wausau)

Students in grades 4-12 can learn how to use Scratch programming to make a variety of games, stories and animations on June 26 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau! This six-week workshop will be a great introduction to Scratch programming and all it has to offer. Any skill and experience level, from beginner to intermediate, is welcome to attend. Free and open to all tweens and teens. For more information, call 715-261-7230.

LEGO® Block Party (MCPL Hatley)

Children of all ages and their families are invited to build creative projects using LEGO blocks! The Marathon County Public Library will host its LEGO Block Party on June 26 from 3-6 p.m. at its Hatley Branch, 435 Curtis Ave., Hatley. All blocks will be provided. PAWS to Read (MCPL Mosinee)

Children will have the opportunity to read to a friendly pooch as part of the Marathon County Public Library’s Summer Library Program! MCPL will offer a session of “PAWS to Read” on June 26 from 3-4 p.m. at the MCPL Mosinee Branch, 123 Main St., Mosinee. Kids can practice and improve their literary skills by reading aloud to a well-behaved therapy dog, which will be provided by Therapy Dogs of Central Wisconsin. This is a drop-in event, so children are welcome to come any time during the set time period. Free and open to the public with no registration required. For more information, call 715-693-2144.

The Zany Inventory (MCPL Wausau)

Visit the Marathon County Public Library as the Zany Inventor presents a glimpse into the crazy and magical world of science and invention on June 27 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and again from 2-3 p.m. at the library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau! Along with his companion Mechanical McMann, the Zany Inventor will make an electricity-free “lava lamp,” demonstrate chemical reactions and more with the help of kids in the audience! Celebrate the USA Story Time (MCPL Hatley)

With the Fourth of July just around the corner, kids and families can celebrate our nation’s birthday with a special story time comprised of patriotic stories, songs and a themed craft on June 27 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Marathon County Public Library’s Hatley Branch, 435 Curtis Ave., Hatley! Children and their families can discover the crazy and magical side of science by attending a visit from the Zany Inventor on June 28 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Edgar Elementary School, 112 N. Second Ave., Edgar! Along with his companion Mechanical McMann, the Zany Inventor will make an electricity-free “lava lamp,” demonstrate chemical reactions and more with the help of kids in the audience! Mr. Lemoncello’s Great Library Escape! (MCPL Wausau)

Tweens can challenge themselves and their friends to try and escape from the Marathon County Public Library’s version of Mr. Lemoncello’s Library on June 28 from 1-3 p.m. at the MCPL Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. Using just your knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and puzzle solving skills, tweens can escape MCPL’s recreation of the puzzles found in the book “Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library!” Free and open to all tweens. Tween and teen girls in grades 4-12 will have the opportunity to learn the basics of Scratch computer programming and how to create programs from start to finish beginning June 29 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. This six-week program is a chance for girls and young women to learn computer coding in a setting that helps them feel comfortable to speak up, ask questions and learn a new skill! Outside the Lines: A Family Coloring Party (MCPL Hatley)

Bring the whole family for a relaxing afternoon of coloring on July 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library’s Hatley Branch, 435 Curtis Ave., Hatley! Coloring sheets and patterns will be available for both children and adults, or families can work on projects together.
