MCPL Wausau to offer program on banned books and censorship

Why are some books challenged as being inappropriate for students or the public in general? And what role do libraries play in providing access to such material? Get the answers to these questions and learn so much more during a special event on September 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau.

Leah Langby, library development and youth services coordinator with Wisconsin's Indianhead Federated Library System, will give a presentation on why some books are challenged or even banned for their content. We'll also discuss the importance of libraries - in K-12 schools, public libraries and university libraries - in serving the community and providing access to a wide range of material. This presentation is in recognition of Banned Books Week, happening nationwide September 23-29.
