Learn about the past and present of US immigration at MCPL Wausau

Posted

Immigration has been a hot topic in the news for quite some time, and the Marathon County Public Library will take a look at the history of immigration in the U.S. and how it compares to current day on November 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau.

Lee Willis, associate professor and chair of Department of History and International Studies at UW-Stevens Point, will speak about trends and reforms that led to the Immigration Act of 1917, which restricted immigration of so-called "undesirables" into the United States. He'll then compare and contrast the situation from a century ago to debates about immigration reform in 2017.

This event is free and open to the public with no registration required. For more information, call 715-261-7230 or visit https://mcpl.us/events/3994.
