FOR MMC
Visit Wausau is proud to announce the Inaugural Ginseng Celebration, a unique event dedicated to honoring the rich heritage and global importance of 125 years of ginseng production in Marathon County. This exciting celebration will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the stunning Wausau Downtown River District at the 400 Block. Ginseng, often referred to as “green gold,” has played a pivotal role in Central Wisconsin’s economy for over a century, with the region producing 95% of the country’s total ginseng crop. As the epicenter of ginseng farming, Marathon County’s farmers have been cultivating this valuable crop, celebrated for its medicinal properties, for generations.
The Ginseng Celebration will be an immersive cultural experience featuring:
Ginseng Educational Workshops: Workshops on the History and Clinical Applications of Ginseng from 9 am to 11 am at Marathon Ginseng, 4613 Camp Phillips Road, Weston, WI 54476, 715-581-2426
Culinary Feast: Renowned local chefs will present creative ways to cook with ginseng, offering free samples and recipes showcasing this versatile root.
Farm Tours: Get a firsthand look at local ginseng farms with guided tours that offer insight into the delicate process of growing this iconic crop.
