Paulsen Sportsman of the Year Award, an accolade that honors exceptional young athletes in Wausau Youth Baseball and Softball. This year, the prestigious award is bestowed upon Konnor Kilinski, a testament to his outstanding sportsmanship and dedication to the game.
Russ C. Paulsen, who passed away in April 2016, was a cornerstone of the Wausau community. Born on April 4, 1933, Paulsen’s life was marked by his unwavering commitment to education, community service, and faith. He worked tirelessly as an educator and administrator, leaving a lasting impact on institutions such as North Central Technical College. His contributions to local organizations, including Wausau Little League, where he served in numerous capacities including Board President, coach, and umpire coordinator, underscored his dedication to youth development.
Wausau Youth Baseball and Softball, serving our community since 1953, is instrumental in fostering over 800 youths annually in baseball and softball. The organization is committed to teaching fundamental skills, teamwork, and character-building values that extend far beyond the diamond. Through programs like these, young athletes learn that baseball is more than a game; it is a foundation for developing life skills that shape them into responsible and contributing members of society.
The Russ C. Paulsen Sportsman of the Year Award is given to a Wausau Youth Major League baseball player who exemplifies the highest standards of sportsmanship, teamwork, and integrity. Recipients of this award are not only talented athletes but also individuals who demonstrate strong moral character, leadership, and a positive attitude both on and off the field.
The criteria for the award include traits and characteristics that the late Russ C. Paulsen lived his life by:

His achievement is celebrated alongside the accomplishments of previous winners, including Landon Parlier (2017), Turner Olson (2018), Tyler Ackerman (2019), Tyler Rothmeyer (2020), Ty Teske (2021), Carson Thurs (2022), and Jace Drews (2023).
