FOR THE WAUSAU TIMES

Neillsville, Wis.,—Veterans, their families, non-veterans and the public are invited to attend a presentation at the Pittsville American Legion at 6pm on Wednesday, May 24 about Post-Traumatic Stress/Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTS/PTSD), Suicide Awareness and Prevention. Although the focus of the presentation will be on Veteran suicide prevention, the majority of the information, communication techniques and resources will translate over to non-veteran situations as well as to awareness and prevention of youth suicide.

Guest presenters will include subject matter experts from the Tomah VA’s Suicide Prevention team and Linda Brey, Gold Star mother of Veteran Don Marine. Don was lost to Veteran Suicide after returning home from five tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Legion will be open at 5:30pm for guests to meet & greet, pick up resources and enjoy refreshments. The presentation begins at 6pm. The VA team, Linda and staff from The Highground’s Veteran/Family PTSD Peer Support Group will be available before and after the presentation for questions and one-on-one conversation.

One of the biggest hurdles for an individual or family managing military or civilian PTS/PTSD and fearing the realities of suicide can be the feeling of loneliness. This presentation will help to bring a community together around those who are struggling. It will be a good event for attendees to understand that they are not alone.

RSVP’s are appreciated (to plan for sufficient resource materials and refreshments) but not mandatory. To RSVP or for more information, please contact Theresa at The Highground by email to [email protected] or by calling 715-743-4224.

The Pittsville American Legion is located at 8239 Main St, Pittsville, WI 54466.

This presentation is made possible by the support of the Pittsville American Legion, the WDVA, the Charles E Kubly Foundation and MDRT.
