AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program Returning to Wausau
FOR THE WAUSAU TIMES
Wausau–AARP Foundation Volunteer Tax-Aides will be returning to Wausau to provide tax assistance with 2022 income tax returns to anyone, free of charge, with a focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low to moderate income. Local volunteers, who are IRS-certified, will prepare and then electronically file Federal, Wisconsin and Homestead Credit tax returns.
Appointments are limited and tax returns will be prepared by appointment only.
For the 2023 tax season, all appointments will be held only at the UW Extension building, 212 River Drive, Wausau, WI 54403. They will be scheduled on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and some Thursday’s from February 7th to April 6th, 2023.
CHANGES: A Same Day Drop-Off service model will be used this year. Taxpayers will deliver tax documents and a pre-appointment packet to our location and finalize the return on a second same day visit. Taxpayer documents will be used throughout the return preparation process and securely stored when not in use. During an initial interview visit to the site, tax documents will be reviewed and left with a Tax-Aide volunteer. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for later on the same day. During the second visit, volunteers work with taxpayers to finalize filing, return documents and obtain a printed copy of the return.
Call center volunteers will be makingrequired appointments Tuesday – Thursday, 9am – 3pm starting January 11th, 2023 at 715-298-5734.
After a required appointment is made, we are asking that you pick up and fill out a pre-appointment packet. The packets will be available at 212 River Drive, WI 54403.
