Wausau Times/Buyers’ Guide
Publication History
February 13, 1975 – The first issue was published by a local hardware store dealer and his son. Three partners were involved in the first issue of The Wisconsin Valley Shopper.
July 1975 – Two more partners joined the company, who later became co-managers when the original three left at the time of sale.
After several “bids” the paper was sold to Tom Karavakis of Waupaca and the name was changed to Valley View Magazine, and became part of Add Inc., which was later sold by Tom to Journal Communications. Valley View Magazine later became the Wausau Buyers’ Guide.
2009 – Journal Communications closed the Wausau Buyers’ Guide office in Wausau and moved operations to Merrill, WI to share office space with the Merrill Foto News, which they also owned.
December 2013- Multi-Media Channels bought the Buyers’ Guide Group of papers from Journal Communications and took over operations. Shortly thereafter, the masthead reflected the new brand of Wausau Times/Buyers’ Guide. Editorial content was added to the paper making it a hybrid newspaper, while still remaining free as a weekly publication and online.
January 2022, the Wausau Times/Buyers’ Guide and its now sister publication, the City Pages, joined forces and moved into one shared office at 325 N.1st Ave., Wausau, WI.
The Wausau Times/Buyers’ Guide is a free publication that is mailed to over 47,000 homes weekly in Wausau, Mosinee, Rothschild, Schofield & Weston, with bulk drops also in Marathon & Edgar.
