Wausau Poetry Walk to be held downtown from September 1-30
For the wausau times
WAUSAU – This year marks the 150th anniversary of Wausau becoming a city, and this milestone will be immortalized through the written word during a month-long poetry walk! Organized by the Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) as part of this year’s Central Wisconsin Book Festival (CWBF), the walk will be held from September 1 through September 30 throughout downtown Wausau.
24 poems, each highlighting and celebrating the city’s rich history, will be displayed in the windows of various businesses throughout the heart of Wausau’s downtown. Folks can read the poems at their leisure any time during the month, and participate in a poetry scavenger hunt. Scavenger hunt entry sheets can be picked up at Janke Book Store, 505 N. Third St., Wausau; or at MCPL’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. Completed scavenger hunt sheets that are returned to either location by September 30 will be entered into a prize drawing.
A free guided tour of all of the poems will be given on September 15 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., starting from MCPL’s Wausau Headquarters. Some of the poets featured on the walk will also give a live reading of their work during a free CWBF event on September 24 starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Center for the Visual Arts, 427 N. Fourth St., Wausau.
The poetry walk and supplementary events are all free and open to the public. For more information, call 715-261-7235or visit https://www.mcpl.us/events/11164. For a complete list of Central Wisconsin Book Festival events, visit www.mcpl.us/cwbf.
