For the Wausau Times
WAUSAU – The year 2022 marks the 33rd anniversary of the Badger State Winter Games (BSG), Wisconsin’s largest annual Olympic-style sporting competition for amateur athletes of all ages and athletic abilities.
BSG Winter Games began back in 1989 with only five events – Alpine Skiing, Curling, Nordic Skiing, Figure Skating, and Hockey.
“In 2022 we will be offering 23 various sporting events giving athletes the chance to win Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals,” a BSG release stated.
On Jan. 8, the Winter Games kicks off with two events: Alpine Skiing and Youth Hockey.
“Alpine has a full day of skiing at Granite Peak Ski Resort from 9:00 am until late afternoon. We have one athlete who is excited to attend his 33rd year. He has never missed a BSG Alpine event and he is traveling from Sister Bay. Squirt A & B Youth Hockey takes center ice with games all day long on Saturday & Sunday at Marathon Park Ice Rinks,” the release added.
