United Way of Marathon County seeks children’s book donations
For the Wausau Times
WAUSAU – Donate new or gently used children’s books to United Way of Marathon County during the month of May to fill Ready to Read bookshelves at local nonprofits.
“One of the biggest barriers to reading for young children is the lack of books of their own. United Way Ready to Read distributes thousands of books to children in our area,” a United Way release stated.
In 2020, over 8,000 books were distributed to children age birth to five years old through Ready to Read.
The most needed books are board books for early readers up to three years old.
“Collect new and gently used children’s books at your company, business, church group, volunteer group, and contact Krista Mischo, United Way’s Volunteer Coordinator, to coordinate cleaning materials for your books. We will provide you cleaning kits for your group to participate in cleaning and stickering books for our community bookshelves. You can deliver these books to a bookshelf in need. This is a powerful volunteer engagement activity,” the release added.
You can collect new and gently used children’s books and drop them off at United Way, during June 8-9.
During the Week of Action, June 21-25, the United Way will offer a variety of volunteer projects to participate in.
