Wausau– Peoples State Bank and the Badger State Games announced on Tuesday, May 5, a three-year agreement making the Wausau-based community bank a sponsor of the Badger State Games summer and winter events. The announcement was made jointly by Scott Cattanach, president and CEO of Peoples State Bank and Richard Barrett, executive director of the Wausau/Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau, which manages the Badger State Games.
“We’re excited to partner with the Badger State Games, and even more excited for when the pandemic is over and we are able to get together on the competition fields,” said Cattanach. “These games are important to many local organizations and sports teams, who help organize and run the events—and that’s important to us as a community bank.”
In addition to sponsoring the Badger State Games, Peoples is presenting sponsor of the Grand Prix of Wisconsin North American Powerboat National Championship speedboat races. Reaching top speeds of 125 mph, these boats “fly on the water” of Lake Wausau and can be viewed from Bluegill Bay Park.
“We welcome Peoples to the Badger State Games family and as presenting sponsor of the powerboat races,” said Barrett. “These sponsorships provide the ability to continue to draw athletes, their families, and spectators from all over the Badger state.”
Badger State Games has been bringing Wisconsinites together for more than 30 years, offering individuals and teams of all ages an opportunity to compete in a variety of amateur events. Games are offered in both summer and winter seasons, with medalists invited to compete in the State Games of America.
In response to COVID-19, some summer events have been postponed, while most are still planned as originally scheduled. Staff continues to monitor the situation and will update schedules as needed.
