River Edge Master Plan update Approved
WAUSAU, WI – The city’s River Edge Master Plan Update, the first since 1995 was approved unanimously on Friday,March 24, capping a 1.5 year-long public planning process which included a variety of public engagements led by the Milwaukee-based planning and engineering firm Graef. The Wausau River Edge Plan originally developed 25 years ago set in motion the acquisition and development of the City’s current River Edge Trail system which has grown to nearly 5 miles. The recent completion of the Riverlife Park in 2019 just completed another integral link in the original plan.
In 2020, the City has authorized to move a couple key recommended segments in the new Plan towards engineered plans for future construction. That Request for Proposals (RFP) from qualified planning and engineering firms is out currently at https://www.wausaudevelopment.com
“The City continues to move forward toward implementing continued improvements to the River Edge Trail system,” said Brad Sippel, Assistant Planner for the City of Wausau.
“The City has invested a record amount of resources in urban planning for our future, this new plan is an important part in continuing to develop amenities that make Wausau a great city.” said Robert Mielke, Mayor.
