Blake Opal-Wahoske has been selected by the Main Street Wausau Board of Directors to be the executive director of the Wausau River District.

Opal-Wahoske, who has been serving as the interim director for the organization, started in his new role Monday, taking over for Elizbeth Brodek.

Wausau River District is a nonprofit organization that helps promote the economic vitality and historic preservation of downtown Wausau. The district — which lies on both sides of the Wisconsin River — includes about 150 business properties and over 250 businesses. It is bounded by Elm Street and Grant Street on the north, Sixth Street on the east, Third Avenue on the west, and Stewart Avenue and Washington Street on the south.

The purpose of the Wausau River District is to promote and facilitate the economic vitality and historic preservation of downtown Wausau for the benefit of the entire community.
