Snowmobile trails to re-open
Jon Daniels, Marathon County Motorized Recreation Administrator, has announced that effective at 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 7, snowmobile trails in Zones 2, 5 and some of Zone 1 will re-open to snowmobiles and ATVs. Designated trails are open to ATVs only of the air temperature is 28 degrees and above.
There are closed trails within each zone. Riders must check the Marathon County snowmobile web page and consult a current trail map to avoid closed trails. Riders can view all the trail closures on the Marathon County website. Zones 3 and 4 will remain closed until further notice.
Ride with care as trail conditions vary from good to poor. Please be careful as some fields and wind-swept areas may be rough due to lack of snow cover. Riders should expect varying late season trail conditions with bare spots, ice, slush and areas of standing water.
Remember, 55 mph is the night time speed limit for snowmobiles everywhere in Wisconsin and Marathon County snowmobile trails are always closed to UTVs.
For up-to-date Marathon County trail conditions, please call the 24-hour snow and trail condition hotline at 1-888-575-7669 or check the website at www.co.marathon.wi.us/parks.asp.
