MCPL Wausau to offer free screening of Jackie Robinson biopic
The Marathon County Public Library is collaborating with local nonprofit organization A Walk in Their Shoes for a pair of events celebrating the life of baseball legend Jackie Robinson! MCPL will offer a free screening of the 2013 biographical film about Robinson’s life on March 5 from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the library’s Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau.
The film tells the life story of Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers under the guidance of team executive Branch Rickey. Robinson became the first African-American player of the modern baseball era when he signed with the Dodgers in 1947. The film stars Chadwick Boseman as Robinson and Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey. The film has a running time of 128 minutes and is rated PG-13.
This film screening precedes a special event on March 13 when Sharon Robinson, Jackie’s daughter, will visit the area to discuss her father’s legacy. This event, organized by local nonprofit group A Walk in Their Shoes, will be held at the Grand Theater in Wausau.
This event is free and open to the public with no registration required. For more information, call 715-261-7230 or visit https://mcpl.us/events/4331.
