Some Marathon County snowmobile trails set to open

Jon Daniels, Marathon County Motorized Recreation Administrator, has announced effective at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, trails in Zones 2, 4 and 5 of Marathon County will open to snowmobiles only. Trails in Zones 1 and 3 will remain closed until further notice.

The snowmobile clubs encourage all riders to check the current Marathon County trail map to avoid any closed trails. Snowmobilers must check the Marathon County website for the five posted trail closures prior to planning a ride.

Ride with care as trail conditions vary from fair to excellent. Daniels cautions riders to be careful as some plowed fields and wind-swept areas are rough due to a lack of snow cover. Also, please be alert for icy patches.

Remember, 55 mph is the night time speed limit for snowmobiles everywhere in Wisconsin.

For up-to-date Marathon County trail conditions, call the 24-hour snow and trail condition hotline at 1-888-575-7669 or check the website at www.co.marathon.wi.is/parks.asp.
