Schulenburg Pool grand opening and summer recreation

The Wausau City pools outdoor swimming season will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, with a special grand opening ceremony at the Schulenburg Pool. Gates will open at 12:30 p.m. with free admission. The ceremony will include a ribbon cutting as well as remarks from the mayor and other Wausau City Council members. Following the ribbon cutting, city officials will lead the public on the first rides down the new slides. The pool is located at 1533 Summit Dr. on Wausau west side.
Kaiser Pool at 900 Bridge St. also opens Saturday at 1 p.m. Due to a mechanical issue, the opening of Memorial Pool at 500 Memorial Park Rd., will be delayed until Monday, June 12.
Swimming lessons begin on June 12. Parents can register online, over the phone or in person at the park office at 212 River Dr. in Wausau.
Playgrounds
Wausau City Playgrounds will begin Monday, June 12. Morning playgrounds run from 8:30 a.m.-noon and meet at John Marshall Elementary School on Mondays and Wednesdays, and at Grant Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All playgrounds meet at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School on Fridays from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. with afternoon swimming at the new Schulenburg Pool included in the registration. Space is still available for morning playgrounds. Monday through Thursday afternoon playgrounds is held in partnership with the Wausau School District Summer School who is responsible for afternoon registration. Wausau Playgrounds are open to students in grades K-4.
Oak Island Tennis Camp and Family Tennis Lessons
Week One of half-day morning or afternoon tennis camps begins Monday, June 12, at Oak Island Park on River Drive. These are group lessons for youth ages seven years and older. There is an additional mini-camp from 11 a.m.-noon each day for ages five and six. Camps run Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. There will be nine weeks of half-day camps this summer. Participants must bring their own racquet and water bottle. Parents can register online, over the phone or in person at the park office.
Family Tennis Lessons
Session 1 begins Monday, June 12, at Oak Island Park tennis courts. Families must include one adult and can be as few as two and as many as four for the same price. Children must be at least five years of age. Additional members can be added for a fee per person. Family Tennis meets Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 6-7:15 p.m. Each family member must bring their own racquet and water bottle.
Splash into Safety
Splash into Safety, an interactive family water safety seminar, will take place from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, June 17, at Memorial Pool in Memorial Park. Pre-registration is required and space in limited. Call 715-874-2380 to sign up. Children will receive life jackets to use for the seminar and to take home, free of charge. Parents must accompany their children through water safety stations that include life jacket fitting, reaching rescues, throwing rescues, treading water, survival floating and CPR AED demonstrations. Splash into Safety is sponsored by Safe Kids Wausau Area, the Wausau Fire Department and the Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
