Tornado and severe weather awareness week is sheduled for April 17-21. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to review, discuss and practice your emergency operations plans along with your warnings policies & procedures.
On Thursday, April 20th, a statewide tornado drill is planned. The National Weather Service will issue a mock tornado watch and warning. If actual severe weather is occurring anywhere in the state on April 20th, the drill will be postponed until Friday, April 21st, with the watch/warning times remaining the same. If there is severe weather on Friday, the drill will be canceled.
The National Weather Service has set up the following schedule.
1 p.m. A mock tornado watch will be issued for all of Wisconsin. A watch means tornadoes are possible in your area. Remain alert for changing weather and approaching storms.
1:45 p.m. A mock tornado warning for all of Wisconsin will be issued. A warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated on weather radar. Move to a place of safety immediately.
6:45 p.m. A mock tornado warning for all of Wisconsin will be issued.
There will be NO “all clear” announced.
The drill will end at 2 p.m. or after a designated time determined by your organization/department.
If you cannot participate in this drill, we strongly recommend that you conduct your own drill at another time. Everyone should be aware of the severe weather procedures you have in place.
