Snowmobile trails

Jon Daniels, Marathon County Motorized Recreation Administrator, has announced effective at 8 a.m. on Sat., Jan 7, 2017 snowmobiles trails in Zones 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Marathon County will open to snowmobiles only. Once these trails open, all five zones will be open. All trails will remain closed to ATVs.

The following three trails will remain closed: 1) in Zone 3 from Shantutown to Ashley between intersections #458 and #459; 2) in Zone 3 through the Leather Camp Forest Unit between intersection #451 south to intersection #420; and 3) in Zone 4 west of intersection #333 (north of Spencer) into Clark County. Please check the Marathon County website for more possible closures.

Ride with care as trail conditions vary from POOR to EXCELLENT and stay on the designated trail. Please be careful as some fields and wind-swept areas may be rough due to a lack of snow cover. Excercise extreme caution approaching all ice crossings since there are reports of areas with open and flowing water. Also, be aware that some marshy areas may be muddy.

Remember, 55 MPH is the night time speed limit for snowmobiles everywhere in Wisconsin and Marathon County snowmobile trails are always CLOSED to UTVs.

For up-to-date Marathon County trail conditions, please call the 24 hour snow and trail condition hotline at 1-888-575-7669 or check the website at www.co.marathon.wi.us/parks.asp or wwww.ci.wausau.wi.us/parks.asp.
For more information, please contact the Park Department at 715-261-1550.
