Rick Lohr, a retired history teacher and world traveler, will recount the history of polio in Marathon County during his presentation “Polio: Scourge of the 1950s and Beyond” on Jan. 9 from 6-7 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library Mosinee Branch, 123 Main St, Mosinee. Lohr will also tell the personal story of his sister’s illness and speak about an immunization trip to India in 2004. Join the Marathon County Public Library’s Crazy 8 Math Club and get better at math while having fun. MCPL will begin offering this weekly club on Jan. 9 from 4-5 p.m. at the Edgar Branch, 224 S. Third Ave., Edgar. During each session, kids will learn about the math behind some of their favorite activities and then apply what they’ve learned by working on craft and building projects that incorporate math, critical thinking and teamwork. The Marathon County Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, Jan 10, 2017, from 1:30-3 p.m., at the Marathon County Historical Society, 410 McIndoe St., Wausau. The program will be provided by DAR Wisconsin State Regent Judy Mason. Her passion is genealogy and she has assisted with the completion of over 80 DAR applications. The public is always welcome to attend.

The Snekkevik Ski Event 2017, sponsored by the Wausau Nordic Ski Club, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at 9:30 a.m., at Nine Mile Forest in Wausau. There will be separate races for both classic and skate cross country ski techniques. There are five different race distances: 3.5K, $8, ages 9-11, 12-13; 6K, $8, ages 14-15, 16-18 (HS); 12K, $25, adults 19+ (both classic and skate race, add $10); 24K, $35, adults 19+ (both classic and skate race, add $10); 1K, free children’s noncompetitive event for ages 9 and under. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Rose #1062, will hold a salad luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 11 a.m-1 p.m. Tickets will be $8 for adults and $4 for kids under 12. There will also be a raffle and bake sale. The event will take place at Krasowski Hall, St. Michael’s Church, 611 Stark St., Wausau. A raflle drawing will be held on Feb. 20, 2017, at St. Therese Church Hall, 113 Kort St., Rothschild. Catholic Financial Life will provide matching funds. Proceeds will be used for scholarships and charitable projects.
