Add a vintage flair to your holidays during the Marathon County Historical Society’s “Christmas at the Houses” event on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both the Yawkey House Museum and the Woodson History Center will be trimmed in their holiday finery, and costumed actors will share unique holiday traditions.

Tours of the historic Yawkey House Museum run every half hour, starting at 11 a.m., with the last tour leaving at 3 p.m. Cost is $5 for members and students, or $7 for non-members. The ticket price includes access to the antique sleigh in the Yawkey House Carriage House, a great opportunity for a memorable family photo. Tweet your photo with the Marathon County Historical Society hashtag and be part of their snapshot album.

New this year: Mid-20th century toys, games and traditions at the Woodson History Center. Short talks scattered throughout the day will alternate between “Wishbook Dreams: Mid-Century Toys of the Holidays” and “Sweet Potatoes & Marshmallows: Around the Mid-Century Holiday Table.”

Of course, seasonal treats will be served, and the free exhibits will be open for visitors to browse. “Our Stories: The History of Marathon County” features reflections on how people arrived in this area, and how they worked and played in days gone by. “Pieces of the Past: Quilts Tell a Story” features 15 antique quilts with local ties that highlight friendships, compassion, economy, creativity and artistry of women whose stories might otherwise go untold.
