Eastbay will host the seventh annual Turkey Trot 5K Run & Walk on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24. The event will take place at the Footlocker.com/Eastbay Corporate Headquarters at 111 S. 1st Ave., Wausau.

Registration is available online at www.eastbay.com/turkeytrot until 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21. The event is limited to the first 1,500 registrants. Participants may also register at the Footlocker.com/Eastbay Corporate Headquarters on Wednesday, Nov. 23, from 12-7 p.m., if spots remain available. The event fee is $25 until 9 pm on Nov. 21 or $30 after.

Eastbay hosts the Turkey Trot 5K Run & Walk to encourage funding and awareness for people in need during the holiday season. One hundred percent of the registration fee will be donated to the Marathon County Hunger Coalition. Last year’s event raised over $40,000 and attracted more than 1,400 runners.

Amanda Gallagher, community impact director for United Way of Marathon County, recently discussed the significance of the event. “Twenty-seven percent of Marathon County LIFE survey respondents said they struggle to buy food for their families,” she said. “Funds raised by Eastbay’s Turkey Trot allowed the Marathon County Hunger Coalition to purchase over 84,000 pounds of food in 2016, supporting local food pantries in meeting this need.”

The Marathon County Hunger Coalition is designed to provide long-term solutions to hunger in Marathon County. For more information, visit www.unitedwaymc.org.
